SITTING
TOO LONG?
You don’t need a full workout. Just get out of the position you’ve been sitting in for hours.
Why you feel stiff after sitting
When you sit in one position for a long time, your body gets used to it. The same few muscles do all the work and your joints barely move. That’s why standing up can feel stiff at first. For most people this goes away once they start moving again. It’s normal and simply means you sat still for a while.
Why your skin looks different by evening
Cold air outside, dry air indoors, screens, touching your face. Your skin goes through a lot in one day. This doesn’t mean something is wrong. It just helps explain why your skin may look or feel different at night.

Home: washing your face
By evening, your skin has been through cold, heat, dry air and a lot of touching. It’s normal for it to look or feel different than it did in the morning.
So before you decide something is wrong or buy a new product, think about what your day was like. Look at the whole picture first, not just the mirror at 11 p.m.
5 simple questions to ask yourself
Was the air dry, hot or cold today?
Did you spend time outside?
Did you touch your face a lot?
Did you try a new cream or product?
Did your skin feel different as the day went on?
Lunch didn’t go to plan? That’s okay.

Planned in the morning
The healthy lunch you had in mind.
Eaten in a hurry
What you actually had time for.
What did your lunch actually give you?
A quick or unplanned meal is not a failure. Instead of judging it, look at what was in it. This simple check shows what your body already got today and what you might add at your next meal.
01 · Protein
Eggs, cheese, yoghurt, fish, chicken, beans, lentils or tofu. Did your meal have any of these, even a little?
02 · Fruit & vegetables
Anything from a plant: lettuce in a sandwich, a tomato, an apple on the way back, a side of peas.
03 · Carbs
Bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, oats or wraps. These give you energy. Wholegrain versions have more fibre, but both count.
04 · Fats
Olive oil, butter, nuts, seeds, avocado, cheese, or the oil your food was cooked in. Almost always there, even if you don’t notice it.
05 · Where vitamins and minerals come from
Citrus fruit, peppers, leafy greens, eggs, dairy, wholegrains, nuts, seeds, beans and fish. You get vitamins and minerals from normal food, not only from supplements, and everyone needs different amounts. Looking at your plate helps you see what you already got today. It doesn’t mean something is missing.
How are you feeling right now?
Try the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something about 6 metres away for 20 seconds. Blink slowly a few times, and make sure your screen isn’t much brighter than the room.
Try a 10-minute resetFrequent hand washing, sanitiser, cold air and heating dry out hands and lips quickly. Keep a small hand cream at your desk and use it after washing. A plain lip balm helps too, and try not to lick your lips.
More on everyday skinA lunch that is mostly white bread or sweets can leave you sleepy soon after. Next time, add some protein and fibre, like eggs, beans, yoghurt or vegetables. For an afternoon snack, try fruit with a handful of nuts.
See what’s on your platePut your phone away 30 minutes before bed and dim the lights. Try a gentle yoga pose, like child’s pose or lying with your legs up the wall, for a few minutes. It helps your body understand the day is over.

Ten minutes is enough to feel a difference. Choose one of these three simple activities. No tracking, no goals, nothing you have to keep up.
Go outside for a short walk, even just around the block. Daylight and fresh air can help you feel more awake and clear your head.
Sit comfortably. Breathe in for 4 counts, then out for 6 counts. Repeat for a few minutes. Breathing out slowly can help you feel calmer.
Slowly drink a glass of water. Feeling tired or foggy during the day can sometimes just mean you haven’t had enough to drink. Keep a bottle on your desk as a reminder.
The goal is simply to notice how you feel before and after. This is general information, not medical advice, and it is not meant to treat or diagnose anything.
Small habits worth starting now
No special gear needed.
A few minutes a day.
Easy to keep up.
Pick one habit and try it this week. Small things done often make the biggest difference.
Start yoga with 3 simple poses
You don’t need a class or a perfect mat. Try these for 5 minutes in the morning:
- 01Cat-cow. On hands and knees, slowly round your back, then gently arch it.
- 02Downward dog. Hands and feet on the floor, hips up, knees soft.
- 03Tree pose. Stand on one leg with the other foot on your calf. Great for balance.
Move gently. Stop if anything hurts.
Wear sunscreen, even on cloudy days
UV light reaches your skin all year round, even through clouds and windows. A simple daily habit:
- 01Use SPF 30 or higher every morning as the last step of your routine.
- 02Don’t forget your neck, ears and the backs of your hands.
- 03Reapply if you spend a long time outside.
A habit, not a special occasion.
Remember vitamin D in autumn and winter
Your skin makes vitamin D from sunlight, so shorter, darker days mean you make less of it.
- 01Eat foods that contain it: oily fish, eggs and fortified milk or cereals.
- 02Get outside in daylight whenever you can, especially around midday.
- 03Thinking about supplements? Ask your doctor first. They can check your levels.
Everyone’s needs are different.
01 · Balance
Brush your teeth on one leg
Switch legs halfway through. It’s an easy way to practise balance every single day.
02 · Clean skin
Clean your phone, change your pillowcase
Both touch your face every day. Wipe your phone screen often and change your pillowcase once a week.
03 · Better sleep
Have your last coffee before 2 PM
Caffeine can stay in your body for many hours, so an afternoon coffee may make it harder to fall asleep.
